It Started When I Broke My Neck
Updated: Apr 13
I grew up in DC and MD, but hit the road in my 20s, eventually visiting and occasionally working in 43 states and 39 countries. Over the years I have worked at running an ice cream parlor in Vieques Puerto Rico, as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, and as the advertising director for Kitchen Bazaar gourmet housewares stores. My hobbies include snorkeling somewhere warm whenever possible, teaching aqua aerobics off and on, chairing the editorial committee for the Napa Valley Wine Auction, singing in the Napa Valley community chorus, and 10+ years as part of a hot air balloon crew that started with a three-week competition crossing Australia to celebrate their bicentennial in 1988. Currently, my husband John and I live near Yountville California in an area they call "rural lite" (septic & well but only eight minutes to Whole Foods) with a couple of rescue dogs who get us out walking in the vineyards every day, rain or shine (or wildfire). As co-owners of NewLevel Group (providing consulting and back-office services for non-profits), we are long-time members of the Social Venture Circle.
After a lifetime of being physically active, I was side-lined several years ago with a broken neck after being hit by a drunk driver. For months, I could barely move, so when I finally was able to resume something approaching normal life, I had to start getting back into shape in little tiny bite-sized pieces. Thus, the concept of mini-workouts was born. I soon realized that these were a fantastic addition to my weekly schedule, even once I was able to start exercising and taking classes again, and I have kept it up ever since. I am an avid gardener, frequent hostess and excellent home cook who can turn out company-worthy meals on the fly when necessary. My public speaking experience includes teacher training sessions for Sport & Health (client engagement and class retention), teaching ESL classes and client presentations.
Whether you are just beginning to exercise or put on the Covid-19 pounds and want to get rid of them, join my in adding mini-workouts to your days!
